Detailed Information

The Adult Physical Fitness Program (APFP) at Ball State University has a rich history dating back to the late 1960s when it was founded by Dr. Bud Getchell. Committed to the university’s educational, research, and service missions, the APFP offers a comprehensive range of services to its members. With over 3,500 square feet of dedicated fitness space, the program provides knowledgeable and friendly staff, fitness assessments, individualized training sessions, regular progress reports, and incentive programs to support members in achieving their health and wellness goals.

At the core of the APFP is its focus on daily exercise supervision and counseling by trained staff, as well as comprehensive health screenings and physical fitness testing for members. The program caters to adults classified as low or moderate risk for cardiovascular disease, while also accommodating individuals with chronic conditions. Through a variety of cardiovascular risk factor screenings and physical fitness measurements, members can receive personalized exercise plans to enhance their overall well-being.

Furthermore, the APFP collaborates with the Clinical Exercise Physiology Program, offering valuable opportunities for undergraduate Exercise Science students to gain hands-on experience. Open to students from any academic institution, this program emphasizes the importance of practical training, current CPR certification, and CITI training. By fostering a supportive environment for both members and students, the Adult Physical Fitness Program continues to uphold its commitment to promoting health and fitness within the community.
