Detailed Information

Hutchinson Gymnasium, originally named after Sydney Hutchinson, a former University trustee and athlete, has been transformed into the Tse Ping – Cheng Cheung Ling Sports Center in 2013. This state-of-the-art facility now houses various athletic programs including Penn Basketball, David Pottruck Wrestling Facility, Fencing, Golf, Gymnastics, and Rowing. The renovation of the gymnasium, which was initially built in 1926-28, has provided modern practice facilities, locker rooms, training rooms, coaches’ offices, and equipment storage to support a range of sports activities.

The Division of Facilities and Real Estate Services (FRES) at the University of Pennsylvania oversees the management and operation of the Hutchinson Gymnasium and other non-academic University properties. With a focus on strategic planning and collaboration with the community, FRES aims to create a safe, diverse, and economically vibrant environment. With a vast campus spanning 276 acres and maintaining 186 buildings, FRES is committed to providing innovative and cost-effective solutions that enhance the overall living and learning experience for the University community.

As stewards of Penn’s physical environment, Facilities and Real Estate Services at the University of Pennsylvania are dedicated to sustainability and collaboration for a better tomorrow. With a rich history and a focus on embracing the past while looking towards the future, FRES strives to maintain and enhance the quality of the University’s facilities to support the diverse needs of its students, faculty, and staff.
