Joseph E. Gallo Recreation & Wellness Center, part of the University of California, Merced’s Recreation and Athletics Department, is dedicated to providing a wide range of recreational and athletic opportunities for students. The Recreation and Athletics Program at Joseph E. Gallo Recreation & Wellness Center features a variety of sports and recreational activities, including group fitness classes, intramural sports, sports clubs, outdoor experiences, and intercollegiate athletics. The center’s facilities, including the Joseph Edward Gallo Recreation and Wellness Center and the Student Activities and Athletics Center, offer state-of-the-art fitness equipment, drop-in recreational activities, and structured opportunities for students to participate in competitive sports clubs. Additionally, the center provides group fitness classes, personal training sessions, and outdoor adventure trips through the Outdoor Center, catering to a diverse range of interests and abilities.
Partnering with UC Merced’s Recreation and Athletics Department, the Joseph E. Gallo Recreation & Wellness Center also houses the Wilderness Center, a valuable resource for Yosemite National Park information. The center’s proximity to Yosemite National Park makes it a popular destination for day trips and outdoor adventures. Furthermore, as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), UC Merced competes in the California Pacific (Cal Pac) Conference, sponsoring eight varsity sports. With a commitment to promoting physical well-being, community engagement, and student success, the center serves as a hub for recreational and athletic activities on campus.
