The business believes in the philosophy that anyone can learn martial arts, regardless of physical limitations, and emphasizes the importance of using martial arts as a means to improve physical fitness and overall well-being.

Founded by Sifu Al Dacascos in 1969, Wun Hop Kuen Do (WHKD) Kung Fu is a style of KAJUKENBO that blends Chinese and Filipino martial arts into a traditional system. KAJUKENBO, America’s first mixed martial art, was created in Hawaii between 1947-1949 by grandmasters from various disciplines. Sifu Al Dacascos further developed WHKD by incorporating more Kung Fu elements and Filipino fighting techniques, resulting in a system that prioritizes practicality and adaptability in real-life combat scenarios. WHKD focuses on developing well-rounded martial artists who can creatively express themselves through their training.

Traditional WHKD instruction is structured around a set of requirements contained in the “Redbook,” which includes blocks, strikes, holds, locks, throws, combinations, setups, history, and fighting principles. The ranking system in WHKD progresses through white, yellow, orange, purple, blue, green, brown, and degrees of black belts, with red belts denoting assistant instructors. Emphasizing the preservation of life over destruction, WHKD instills values of respect and calmness in its practitioners, while continuously evolving to incorporate new techniques and methodologies encountered by students.
